Oscar de la Rental
This week's top videos
The Academy Award gravy train just keeps chugging along. In the wake of last week’s impressive chart debut of Frank Darabont’s Best Picture contender, The Shawshank Redemption (now this week’s top rental), two new releases heavily promoted in video stores as Oscar nominees are also finding the audiences on the small screen that eluded them at the multiplex. Robert Redford’s Best Picture candidate Quiz Show, which scored with critics but earned a disappointing $24.8 million at the box office, opened at No. 7. Meanwhile, Blue Sky, which garnered a Best Actress statuette for Jessica Lange, debuted at No. 15 — a much-needed lift, considering that in its theatrical run, the long-shelved film ran into stormy weather, making only $3.2 million.
