No sooner had all the Oscar hoopla faded than Hollywood returned to playing dumb: Chris Farley’s stupid-human tricks in Tommy Boy claimed the top spot, siphoning off spring break’s young-male audience that Tank Girl, tanking in tenth place, had hoped to claim for its own. Forrest Gump, with six trophies, was the only Oscar-winner to enjoy a significant boost at the box office over the weekend: A 33 percent increase in business propelled it five notches up the chart, and with $321.1 million in its account, Gump stands on the verge of surpassing Star Wars ($322.7 million) as the third highest-grossing movie of all time.
