The rapid-fire delivery on MCs Tuffy and Hakeem’s debut single, ”Mad Izm,” fueled its instant success. Although the rest of the album displays similar moments of originality and loose-lipped, herb-inspired euphoria, it fails to re-create the single’s boom bap flow. When the Jersey duo attempts to emulate lyrical master KRS-One (who guest-stars and coproduces), they overpower the minimalist, sometimes jazzy beats and come off as trying too hard.
