Too bad the two Motown covers on this distrust-and-divorce concept disc don’t come from Marvin Gaye’s dark ode to failed relations, Here, My Dear. But on Beggar on a Beach of Gold (Atlantic), songs like the abandoned-housewife lament ”Another Cup of Coffee” aptly articulate middle-aged discontent, with keyboards sputtering like caffeine’s kept them up all night.
