Angel lust: Sure, she’s got the cheekbones and sensuality, but now we’ll find out if Uma Thurman has what it takes to play Übersiren Marlene Dietrich. Based on the bio by daughter Maria Riva, Marlene will be directed this spring by Louis Malle from John Guare’s script. Perhaps Malle can channel director and Dietrich Svengali Josef von Sternberg for lighting tips.

Fast acting: Johnny Depp’s going to wipe that Ed Wood grin right off his face as a dad who must save his daughter from kidnappers in Nick of Time. The John Badham thriller, told in real time, begins shooting in April.

Stealthy choice: Also going into action this spring — John Travolta and Christian Slater. In Broken Arrow, they star as pilots trying to retrieve an errant nuclear warhead. Hong Kong whiz John Woo directs; Mark Gordon (Speed) produces.
