A cult film that genuinely deserves its cult, director John Moxey’s crisply made account of witchcraft in a New England town has been seen on TV and tape in a cropped, bleached-out version that trashes its moody, black-and-white cinematography. Fortunately, this new letterboxed disc comes from a mostly excellent wide-screen print, and it delivers Horror Hotel‘s considerable frissons intact. The fly in the ointment: occasionally unconvincing American accents from the largely British cast. Otherwise, this is the very model of an intelligent low-budget shocker, in an exemplary presentation. B+
