Because Kirsty MacColl has continually bent the basic shape of her Anglo-pop over the last 15 years, this career-long compilation, Galore is an adventure in contrasting styles. From the guitar jangle of ”There’s a Guy Works Down the Chip Shop Swears He’s Elvis” to the Latin-flavored ”My Affair” and the Gaelic pop ”Angel,” MacColl never fails to bring out a smile with her genial delivery, even when saddled with a somnabulent duet partner like the Lemonheads’ Evan Dando on Lou Reed’s ”Perfect Day.” B+
