Sure, there are CD-ROMs to instruct you in Spanish and German and French, but why not learn the language that is estimated to be this country’s third most widely used? If nothing else, you can figure out what Heather Whitestone — Miss America — is really saying at her next appearance. The American Sign Dictionary on CD-Rom is an educational disc, yes, but it’s breezily thorough: a dictionary with 2,500-plus entries and video clips for each sign, as well as tough practice sessions and a directory of books, services, and devices. If you’re not hearing impaired, this disc may be an eye-opener. If you are, it’ll be a world opener.A
