The Cincinnati foursome, Ass Ponys, attempts to transform its melodic country — punk rusticism into pastoral grandeur — and nearly succeeds. Led by Chuck Cleaver’s pinched voice and fueled by David Byrne-like lyrics and jangly R.E.M.-style guitar, the Ponys pack an angry-funny wallop with Electric Rock Music. B+
