*Gump on late night: Late Show With David Letterman devotes a Top Ten list to ”Rejected Forrest Gump Sayings” (e.g., ”Jenny and me, we’re like Tonya and Gillooly”).
*Gump on the radio: Parody songs: ”The Forrest Pump” (mimicking Reebok ads); ”Gump!” (to the tune of ”Jump!”); and ”Gump Up the Volume” (Gumpisms set to music).
*Gump off the rack: With Bubba Gump Shrimp T-shirts and caps, you too can look like a geek. *Gump collectibles: The football uniform worn by Tom Hanks in the film will be auctioned off Oct. 8 in Long Beach, Calif. Bids start at $2,500.
*Gump on the charts: Gump is still No. 1 at the box office. The double CD soundtrack is No. 3 on Billboard’s Top 200. Winston Groom’s novel is No. 1 on The New York Times paperback best-seller list. Groom’s Gumpisms is No. 1 on The New York Times miscellaneous best-seller list.
*Gump as Crossfire fodder: ”Pat Buchanan heralded Forrest Gump as a great conservative hero. Has Hollywood gone right wing? Or has Pat here lost his marbles?” asked Michael Kinsley, CNN’s Crossfire host, on a show entitled: ”Peace, Love & Forrest Gump.”
