A diverse set of cool jazz, pop-funk, and percolating R&B ballads-with occasional Latin per- cussion accents. The unifying factor is Baker’s dusky voice. Her self-immolating passion seems to grow more intense with the years, and the emotional battle scars we occasionally hear distinguish her from the crop of new vocalists on the block. Diva is a word too often used lightly. It may be safely applied here.
