With Richard Dean Anderson’s return as the dashing MacGyver (MacGyver: The Lost Treasure of Atlantis, ABC, May 14, 8-10 p.m.), we recall his soap pedigree.

Graduated From: General Hospital (1976-81).Character: The unlucky-in-love neurologist Dr. Jeff Webber.
Majored In: Testing his bedside manner. A lot. Minored In: Getting shot in the head (”I think my wife did it”) and looking silly in a bald headpiece.
Math Lesson: ”Halfway through my three-year contract I thought, ‘I’m burning out here, no way I’ll stay.’ So when the contract was up I told my agent, ‘Let’s ask for too much money and they’ll say goodbye.’ But they went for it! So I stayed another two years.”
Yearbook Comment: ”I couldn’t do one of those shows today if I wanted to. It’s the hardest work.”
