Planning: Roman Polanski will direct the film version of Ariel Dorfman’s play Death and the Maiden, with Sigourney Weaver as a woman who gets revenge against her torturer…. Pondering: Demi Moore may don Puritan duds to play defiant Hester Prynne in the third American version of Nathaniel Hawthorne’s The Scarlet Letter…. Plotting: Julia Roberts strikes pay dirt again. For a reported $8 million, she’ll hit the road in Tracks as real-life adventuress Robyn Davidson, who crossed the Australian desert with only a dog and four camels…. Shooting: Anthony Hopkins takes a break from his usual repertoire of mad dogs and brooding Englishmen to play a doctor in the period comedy The Road to Wellville. The Alan Parker film will be released next fall.
