NUKIE Glynis Johns, Steve Railsback (1989, Vidmark, G, $92.95) Nukie is a terminally cute little space alien shamelessly patterned after E.T. After crash-landing in Africa, he sets out in search of fellow visitor Miko, who has been captured by the usual group of test-happy government scientists. During his odyssey, Nukie has several precious encounters with wild animals, who have been supplied with some of the most annoying human voices in movie history. He also briefly interacts with Johns as a kindly nun and Railsback as a concerned scientist. This international coproduction was evidently meant as a family movie, though its poky pace and quasihigh-tech lab experiments will stupefy most kids. Their parents, meanwhile, will find it sheer hell on earth. D -MS
