Carnosaur Diane Ladd, Raphael Sbarge (1993, New Horizons, R, $92.98) Not only did this Roger Corman-ized Jurassic Jr. beat Steven Spielberg’s dino-pic to theaters last summer, it also boasts the perverse casting of Laura Dern’s mom as a misanthropic scientist out to repopulate the world with home-brewed tyrannosaurs. While the infrequent attack scenes are frighteningly staged and surprisingly gory, writer-director Adam Simon depressingly adheres to such tired terror-flick prerequisites as partying teens, greedy corporate villains, and inappropriate wisecracks. There are, however, a few outlandish moments to satisfy, um, specialized tastes: If Ron Howard’s brother Clint’s getting his $ head torn off doesn’t turn a stomach or two, the sight of women giving bloody birth to baby dinosaurs through pantyhose will.
