Hummin' Comin' at 'cha

Like SWV with more sisterly voices, like TLC with a gangsta frown, like…oh, you get the picture. This Atlanta quartet snagged an end-of-summer hit with “Just Kickin’ It.” Produced by Kris Kross scoutmaster Jermaine Dupri, the song offers a thick bass thump and “traditional” male-female role-playing: “Every man wants a woman that can cook him up a good meal/ A woman he can treat like his homie,” etc. The rest of Hummin’ Comin’ At ‘Cha is equally conservative, with its familiar hip-hop beats and pleading lyrics, but these around-the-way girls do exude a feisty appeal.
