* Pressing: Vinyl being the retro cool it is, releasing an LP before the CD version is becoming a trend du jour. Uberhipsters Nirvana released 25,000 special collector’s editions of In Utero a week before the official CD hit the stores. Now Pearl Jam will do the same, issuing vinyl of their latest on Oct. 12, and the CD on Oct. 19. It’s called Vs., but don’t expect to see a title on anything but a few cassettes until the first half-million units are sold. The band, according to an Epic spokesperson, couldn’t decide on a title by press time (Five Against One was an early option). Avid collectors can therefore snap up untitled versions before the planned second pressing later this year.

* Honoring: Yet another tribute album, this one a la the upcoming Sinatra duetfest. The honoree is Jimi Hendrix, and so far Jeff Beck will duet with Seal, and Paul Rodgers with Slash, on the legendary guitarist’s tunes. Also slated to contribute: Living Colour, Pearl Jam, and Soundgarden.
