Brawny, full-bodied, and bluesy, Illinois Jacquet’s sound is perfect in its way. Because Texas Tenor is so rich with recent footage of Jacquet, one of the all-time sax masters, it’s rewarding. But it’s also jumbled, never making clear just when he formed his band — or, for that matter, what he was doing at almost any point from the ’40s to the present. B-
