Splitting: Singer Natalie Merchant, reportedly, from 10,000 Maniacs, the band she cofounded in 1981. An unplugged album, due Oct. 8, will be the band’s last release together.
Dueting: En Vogue and Salt-N-Pepa, on a song the rappers wrote for En Vogue’s six-track EP Runaway Love (Sept. 22 release).
Covering: The Pet Shop Boys will do the Village People’s classic ”Go West” on Very, their seventh album (September release).
Collaborating: Nirvana’s Kurt Cobain and author William S. Burroughs, on a spoken song, ”Priest They Called Him.”
Boxing: Expect boxed sets from Velvet Underground, Paul Simon, Moody Blues, Alice Cooper, and The Band this fall.
Releasing: In early September, look for a live CD-5 excerpt from Show, the Cure’s full-length concert film documenting their 1992 Wish stadium tour (the film premieres in mid-August).
Recording: Pantera’s Diamond Darrell and Vinnie Paul, in their father’s Nashville studio, Abtrax. The album promises to find them harder than ever (October release).
