Cabaret king Bobby Short — at the top of his game at age 66 — has produced an album outstanding in every category: singing, accompaniment (by the Alden-Barrett Quintet), repertoire (mostly overlooked gems from the ’30s and ’40s), and sound quality. The highlight of Swing That Music is ”Killin’ Myself,” with its curious mix of exultation and pathos. Classic pop doesn’t get much better. A-
