Throughout Joe Dante’s recently released Matinee, B-movie star Ruth Corday (Cathy Moriarty) wears an expression that says, ”Get lost,” to everyone she meets. And owing to a continuity error, one character actually does. Look for the scene in a theater lobby where Ruth, masquerading as a nurse, makes patrons sign release forms in case Mant, the horror flick they’re about to see, scares them to death. As Gene (Simon Fenton) and his brother sign up, another child emerges from the left seeking medical attention. Ruth brushes him off-so effectively, in fact, that in the very next shot, from across the room, Ruth, Gene, and his brother remain, but the injured kid has inexplicably vanished.
