Not since Linda Hamilton in Terminator 2: Judgment Day have a woman’s bulging biceps figured so prominently in a summer movie. The upper body in question: Angela Bassett’s in her role as Tina Turner in Touchstone’s What’s Love Got to Do With It. The 34-year-old actress, who trained nonstop for a month at Gold’s Gym in L.A., has arms that look more like Jackie Joyner-Kersee’s than Tina Turner’s. Did she overdo it? Bassett says director Brian Gibson (The Josephine Baker Story) told her to quit exercising-she was becoming too developed. ”I wasn’t thinking about the time period (of the movie) and how women worked out then,” admits Bassett, who nonetheless defends her tone-up. ”I look muscular, but I don’t think I look like the Incredible Hulk.”
