Yet another erotic thriller with a catchy two-word title, Homicidal Impulse is no Basic Instinct, Fatal Attraction, or even Presumed Innocent. It does, however, borrow a little bit from each. Scott Valentine plays a deputy district attorney who lacks the killer instinct to claw his way to the top. His prospects improve when he’s seduced by a sexy office intern (Vanessa Angel) who has enough killer instinct for both of them. The movie’s close attention to its hero’s moral descent adds a dimension you don’t often find in such made-for-video fare. Even the obligatory sex scenes seem to take on added meaning. They’re just so…revealing. Once you’ve seen the way Valentine and Angel go at it — especially in the unrated edition — the rest of their crimes of passion will make perfect sense. B
