Captain Horatio Hornblower

Despite its comical-sounding title, Captain Horatio’s Hornblower is a sturdy, well-crafted adventure picture, starring Gregory Peck as an impossibly stalwart British seafarer battling Napoleon’s allies in the early 19th century. The impressive and genuinely exciting action scenes, however, are occasionally interrupted by a listless romantic subplot that should never have left port.
