As if fighting for close-ups during the making of a movie weren’t enough, a few potential nominees could face their costars on Oscar night:

For Best Actor: Robin Williams vs. Dustin Hoffman in Hook

For Best Actor: Robin Williams vs. Jeff Bridges in The Fisher King

For Best Actor: Nick Nolte vs. Robert De Niro in Cape Fear

For Best Actress: Susan Sarandon vs. Geena Davis in Thelma & Louise

For Best supporting Actor: Ben Kingsley vs. Harvey Keitel in Bugsy

For Best supporting Actress: Blythe Danner vs. Kate Nelligan in The Prince of Tides

Academy rules ban an actor from being nominated for two films in the same category, forcing potential nominees to compete against themselves:

For Best supporting Actress: Kate Nelligan vs. Kate Nelligan Frankie & Johnny and Prince of Tides

Judy Davis vs. Judy Davis Barton Fink and Naked Lunch

Finally, there’s a very outside chance that for the first time ever a father and son will go mano a mano for the same award:

For Best supporting Actor: Elliott Gould in Bugsy vs. Jason Gould in Prince of Tides (directed by the former Mrs. Gould, Barbra Streisand).
