Martin Scorsese: A Journey

type
  • Book

An ex-novitiate who has known Scorsese since his days at NYU film school, Mary Pat Kelly worships too blindly at the altar of America’s greatest living auteur in A Journey. She sees divine inspiration in Scorsese’s tiniest on-the-set improvs, and strains to cast the director’s work in strictly theological terms. Fortunately, her overheated prose frames a collection of terrifically flavorful film-by-film interviews, transcribed from Kelly’s years of talks with Scorsese and virtually all his key collaborators. Dabblers in Scorseseology may tire of Kelly’s exhaustive attention to production details, but true believers should find this career study heavenly. B+
