One Good Cop
They weren’t kidding with that title. When his partner is killed by a crack-crazed gunman, a Bronx detective (Michael Keaton) and his wife (Rene Russo), who can’t have kids of their own, inherit three little orphaned girls. Of course one of them has to be diabetic. And to finance a house for all of them, Keaton steals a stash of cash from a drug kingpin and risks life, limb, and his job at the precinct.
One Good Cop was written and directed by rookie Heywood Gould with a stunning eye and ear for banality. ”It’s a funny world, Artie,” the partner (Anthony LaPaglia) is moved to tell Keaton, and all one can reply is ”Not nearly funny enough.” C-
