Why did Jack Wagner leave ''General Hospital''? -- The popular actor jumped ship to star in ''Santa Barbara''

Why did Jack Wagner bolt ABC’s still-popular General Hospital for NBC’s lower-rated Santa Barbara? The 31-year-old actor-singer says he was eager to shed a good-guy role — GH‘s cop Frisco Jones — that had grown dull. Wagner says his new character, Warren Lockridge, is ”an action man. He’s a drinker, a smoker, and a womanizer. But he has a good heart, and he’s a lot of fun.” The money’s not bad either: Wagner’s rumored million-dollar contract will make him one of daytime’s wealthiest leading men. But he shouldn’t spend it too quickly. If Santa Barbara‘s audience doesn’t grow, the seven-year-old soap could be gone by ’92.
