''Twin Peaks'' entered TV's hall of fame -- A sampling of what made the David Lynch show a hit

Forbidden Fruit
This year’s awards for Most Astonishing Accomplishment Involving a Small Snack goes to Miss Audrey Horne resident of Twin Peaks, who applied for a job at One-Eyed Jack’s with a trick involving a cherry stem, a tongue, and a skill that’s not found in any Girl Scout Knot-Tying Handbook — but which certainly deserves a merit badge of its own. The trick can be faked and parodied (Victoria Jackson’s send-up, involving a ribbon that turned into an elaborate bow, was the high point of her Saturday Night Live career), but it’s hard for the untrained mouth to duplicate; the only other member of the Twin Peaks ensemble with that gift is actress Mädchen Amick (Shelly). Nonetheless, it was Sherilyn Fenn as Audrey who left millions of Americans tongue-tied with admiration. How did she pull it off? Well, the first step is to nibble the stem until it’s completely soft. After that…sorry. Her lips are sealed, and so are ours.
