The exemplary documentary filmmaker Les Blank (Always for Pleasure, Garlic Is as Good as Ten Mothers) turns his attention to the Cajun and zydeco music of Louisiana, recording performances by stars like Queen Ida and ordinary folks who pump on button accordions and saw on fiddles for the pure joy of it. As always, in The American Experience: French Dance Tonight, Blank allows his subjects to speak for themselves and ends up with lots of colorful anecdotes and a great deal of rich, fervent party music.
