Half of the ’70s pop duo England Dan and John Ford Coley, Seals hitched his star to country music the following decade. A true Texas son, Seals nonetheless prefers a bantamweight variety of country-pop, expressed on On Arrival with a remake of Sam Cooke’s ”Good Times” and the bouncy ”Love on Arrival.” His attempts at insight and sensitivity (”Wood,” ”Bordertown”) are, perhaps not surprisingly, pedestrian and shallow.
