Harry Anderson, best known to audiences for his role as Judge Harry Stone on Night Court, was found dead early Monday in his home in Asheville, North Carolina. He was 65.

While no cause of death has been revealed, local authorities claim not to suspect foul play.

Born in Newport, Rhode Island, Anderson earned three Emmy nominations for his portrayal of the quirky, baby-faced judge while starring on Night Court for nine seasons from 1984 to 1992. He then went on to play the titular character in Dave’s World, which was based on syndicated humor columnist Dave Barry, for four seasons until 1997. His other TV credits include roles in the original It, Cheers, Son of the Beach, 30 Rock, Saturday Night Live, and Comedy Bang! Bang!.

An accomplished magician, Anderson made numerous appearances on The Tonight Show Starring Johnny Carson to show off his skills and was featured in the 1987 magic special, Harry Anderson’s Sideshow. He even owned a magic shop in the French Quarter of New Orleans, and in 2005 opened a nightclub in the Big Easy called Oswald’s Speakeasy. Up until the time of his death, he continued to present his one-man show, Wise Guy, originally developed for his theater in New Orleans.

Anderson is survived by his wife, Elizabeth Morgan, and two children.

Anderson’s Night Court costars John Larroquette, Markie Post, and Marsha Warfield, along with many others who were inspired by him, are sharing their thoughts on social media.
