Cody Fern now moves from The Assassination of Gianni Versace to a different kind of American Crime Story. The Australian actor has joined the sixth and final season of House of Cards in an undisclosed role, though Netflix confirms he’s coming onto the scene as a series regular.

Fern, who starred in The Tribes of Palos Verdes, was spotted in the latest episode of the FX anthology series as David, the young gay man who marks the beginning of Andrew Cunanan’s killing spree. After appearing in the show with Darren Criss, Edgar Ramirez, and Penelope Cruz, Fern joins the previously cast Diane Lane and Greg Kinnear in House of Cards.

Filming recently resumed on Beau Willimon’s Emmy-winning political drama with Robin Wright’s President Claire Underwood as the new lead. Production was suspended in the wake of sexual misconduct allegations against Kevin Spacey, who has since been scrubbed from the Netflix original series.

Fern’s casting marks the latest step in constructing the ensemble cast for the final season. Michael Kelly, Jayne Atkinson, Patricia Clarkson, Constance Zimmer, Derek Cecil, Campbell Scott, and Boris McGiver will also star.

Wright will further executive produce the series with Melissa James Gibson, Frank Pugliese, David Fincher, Joshua Donen, Dana Brunetti, Eric Roth, Michael Dobbs, and Andrew Davies.

A premiere date for House of Cards season 6 has yet to be announced.
