Quentin (Jason Ralph) and Eliot (Hale Appleman) are returning to Fillory — hopefully.

In this exclusive sneak peek at Wednesday’s The Magicians, Quentin and Eliot must find a way back to Fillory in order to continue their quest to restore magic; however, returning to Fillory takes on an even greater importance when they receive a bunny message from Margo (Summer Bishil) about her surprising and impending nuptials.

How will they get back? Watch the clip above to find out, and then read on below for more details on tonight’s episode from Appleman.

Because this is The Magicians, everything doesn’t go exactly as planned and Quentin and Eliot find themselves off on their own timey-wimey adventure. While we won’t spoil for you what happens to them, we’ll say we definitely understand why executive producer John McNamra was excited for fans to see “A Life in the Day,” which explores Quentin and Eliot’s friendship in a very unique way

“It’s a little bit of a departure for the show in that it’s more intimate — intimate in every sense of the word, I think, from a storytelling standpoint,” says Appleman. “It allows these two characters to explore the nuances of the moments between moments. It’s not necessarily about the quest of things in the most action-packed, spectacular way. It’s really about exploring how these two people of individual natures complement each other, how they exist together.”

The unusual adventure will “ground the relationship in a bond that is unshakable,” says Appleman. “There have been moments of connection, moments of passion, moments of working together on a common agenda for the sake of their lives. But there really hasn’t been a moment to stop and consider who they are together and why their friendship is special and the nuances of that friendship. I think this episode seeks to give a little bit of a window into that dynamic.”

Overall, Appleman thinks the hour will be a treat for books fans. Says the actor, “I think that fans of the books will be really pleased to see an episode that explores a little more nuance between Quentin and Eliot. It is a real pillar of friendship in the novels, and I think on the show, we’ve been waiting for the right moment to really capture the specificity of that connection, in all its complexity and beauty.”

The Magicians airs Wednesdays at 9 p.m. on Syfy.
