Superhero Insider: The Arrowverse heroes face setbacks and tragedy

Each week, we break down the biggest moments from Supergirl, The Flash, Black Lightning, and Arrow — both here on EW.com and on SiriusXM’s EW Live every Friday during Superhero Insider.

This week, Lena came close to realizing her destiny on Supergirl, Team Flash got shrunk, a new hero rose on Black Lightning, and one hero fell on Arrow. Here are the highlights:

SUPERGIRL

Diyah Pera/The CW

Though Reign (Odette Annable) has certainly taken center stage in recent episodes, it’s hard to forget the ever-looming threat that Lena (Katie McGrath) may someday turn evil. That was showcased once again when Morgan Edge (Adrian Pasdar) targeted Lena after her mother Lillian (Brenda Strong) aimed to kill him during Monday’s episode. Lena took the high road, but at what point do too many dominoes fall that she finally embraces her destiny? In my humble opinion, this is a season 4 storyline, as I’m fully willing and ready to wait as long as possible — after all, if we’re soon going to lose Sam as part of the quadrangle of powerful femme friends, Lena’s turn would be one hit too many this season. —Natalie Abrams

THE FLASH

Barry’s secret identity continues to be the worst kept secret ever. This week, Barry used his powers to free his prison mate Big Sir, who was wrongfully for a crime. Unfortunately, Warden Wolfe caught Barry on camera and imprisons him in the metahuman wing of so he can sell him to Amunet Black. It took a few episodes, but I’m finally starting to care about this prison storyline, which has been rather wonky and messy. Also, I’ll take anything to have Katee Sackhoff and her unnecessary but totally delightful British accent return to the show. —Chancellor Agard

BLACK LIGHTNING

Carin Baer/The CW

Female. Black. Lesbian. Superhero. My heart just about exploded during Tuesday’s episode as Anissa (Nafessa Williams) set out to explore her powers, with the show also delving into her sexuality as she befriended bartender Grace — they met cute at a bookstore, where Grace thought Anissa was checking out her backside but was actually looking at the comic book tucked in her back pocket. Or, let’s be honest, she was doing both. I’m all in on Black Lightning, but I’d also be just as happy watching Thunder, FYI. —N.A.

ARROW

Bettina Strauss/The CW

Good riddance to Vigilante, welcome back Dark Dinah/Tina Boland. The one good thing to come out of the death of Vigilante is that it pushes Dinah down a very dark path that, she hopes, ends with killing Black Siren, who murdered Vince. This will no doubt lead to her clashing with not only Oliver, but also Quentin, who is still holding out hope that there’s still some good in his daughter’s doppelgänger. Since debuting last year, Juliana Harkavy has become a solid supporting character, but I’m glad the writers are giving her a storyline that will show off her more of her range. The end of this storyline will probably be heartbreaking, but I’m ready for the Black Siren vs. Black Canary war to begin. —C.A.
