Netflix is close to signing a new Princess Margaret.
Helena Bonham Carter is near a deal to take over the role from Vanessa Kirby for seasons 3 and 4, EW has confirmed.
The Harry Potter series and Howard’s End actress is part of the British royalty drama’s major recasting effort with older actors as the new season is expected to follow Queen Elizabeth II from 1957 to 1964. Carter was previously rumored to be in the running to play Elizabeth, but that lead role ultimately went to Olivia Colman, who will replace Emmy nominee Claire Foy.
Netflix unveiled season 2 of the series on Dec. 8, with Foy, Matt Smith (Prince Philip), Victoria Hamilton (the Queen Mother), and Jeremy Northam (Antony Eden) along with newcomers Matthew Goode (Lord Snowdon, a photographer who married Princess Margaret) and Michael C. Hall (as John F. Kennedy).
Netflix had no comment.
