Psych is coming back to TV on Thursday, Dec. 7 in the form of a holiday movie, but Bingeworthy hosts Jessica Shaw and Touré are divided on whether it’s worth the watch.

The movie, which reunites stars of the USA network comedy series James Roday and Dulé Hill, takes place three years after the events of the series finale as a mysterious killer targets one of their friends. Of course, that means fake psychic detective Shawn Spencer and bestie Burton “Gus” Guster — who are operating out of their new office in San Francisco, called “Psychphrancisco” — take on the case and trouble ensues.

While Shaw is impressed by the flick, citing the stars’ amazing chemistry, she doesn’t believe it’s for people who are new to the USA series. “They’re not trying to bring in new viewers with this movie,” she says, explaining that she didn’t get a lot of the references. “It is not for the uninitiated, let’s just put it that way.”

Touré, on the other hand, has very few positive things to say about the show-turned-movie. “Watching this, I felt like, oh wow, comedy is really hard,” he begins. “It’s not that funny. I constantly feel like they’re acting in front of me. I didn’t believe any of it… What was the main idea that we’re driving towards? I had no idea! This was maddening.”

Shaw tries to defend the film as a love letter to the fans, but Touré isn’t buying it. “The individual piece should work regardless or not regardless of whether or not we’ve been watching the show faithfully and just as a piece of television, it doesn’t work,” he says. “It’s a mess, it’s all over the place, it’s so absurdly unfunny and silly and ridiculous.”

Decide for yourself when Psych: The Movie premieres Friday, Dec. 7 at 8 p.m. ET on USA.
