American Housewife will celebrate Christmas in the hospital

Christmas comes every year, but not always in the way we expect. For the Otto family of American Housewife, this year’s holiday will be celebrated in one of the most un-romantic of locations: the hospital.

As seen in EW’s exclusive first-look photo above, the Christmas episode of American Housewife will find the Otto family going to great lengths to be together. With the pregnant Doris (Ali Wong) going into labor, her friend Katie Otto (Katy Mixon) heads to the hospital to be there for her friend. This throws a wrench in the long-standing Otto tradition of opening their Christmas presents together, so Greg Otto (Diedrich Bader) takes their children Taylor (Meg Donnelly), Oliver (Daniel DiMaggio), and Anna-Kat (Julia Butters) along so they can still be together. They even set up a simulation of a flaming yule log to get as much Christmas spirit as they can.

The episode, titled “Blue Christmas,” will air Wednesday, Dec. 13 at 9:30 p.m. ET as part of ABC’s “25 Days of Christmas” franchise. Check out another exclusive photo below.
