On this year’s special Christmas episode of the long-running time travel show Doctor Who, Peter Capaldi’s current iteration of the titular Time Lord meets a much earlier incarnation, the First Doctor, a role originated by the late William Hartnell but now portrayed by David Bradley (Game of Thrones). And, as is often the case when different Doctors meet, it takes them a while to warm up to each other, which is demonstrated by a just-released clip from the episode, titled “Twice Upon a Time.”
The special Christmas episode of Doctor Who costars Pearl Mackie as Bill Potts and frequent Doctor Who writer (and Sherlock co-creator) Mark Gatiss as the Captain. The episode will also see Capaldi’s Doctor regenerate into a new version played by Jodie Whittaker, the first female actor to play the part.
“Twice Upon a Time” will premiere this Christmas on BBC America. Fathom Events is also screening the episode in theaters for one night only on Dec. 27.
