“You came here to be tested. And this is a test.” David Koresh (Taylor Kitsch) says those words to his followers in an exclusive new trailer for the upcoming six-part miniseries Waco.

Based on true events, Waco tells the story of the 51-day standoff between Koresh’s religious sect, the Branch Davidians, and the FBI, which occurred in 1993 and ended in a fire that left 77 Davidians dead, including Koresh. Specifically, the series is based on two biographies about the event: A Place Called Waco, written by David Thibodeau, a surviving Branch Davidian, and Stalling for Time: My Life as an FBI Hostage Negotiator, written by FBI negotiator Gary Noesner.

Aside from Kitsch, the miniseries stars Michael Shannon as Noesner, along with John Leguizamo, Melissa Benoist, and more.

You can watch a new trailer for Waco, which premieres Wednesday, Jan. 24 on Paramount Network, above.
