Jimmy Kimmel celebrated his 50th birthday in style during Monday’s episode of Jimmy Kimmel Live, as a cavalcade of stars — including Jennifer Lawrence, Will Ferrell, Halle Berry, Larry David, and David Letterman — read mean tweets directed at Kimmel himself.
The bit, a variation on Kimmel’s popular Mean Tweets segment where celebrities read the terrible things Twitter users post about them online, also including a guest appearance from Kim Kardashian West, who read a tweet written by her husband, Kanye West.
“JIMMY KIMMEL PUT YOURSELF IN MY SHOES … OH NO THAT MEANS YOU WOULD HAVE GOTTEN TOO MUCH GOOD P—Y IN YOUR LIFE,” tweeted West, as read by Kardashian. (West’s tweets, including that one from 2013, have since been deleted.) The reality star added her own response: “Fair point, Kanye.”
Back in 2013, West went on a Twitter rampage against Kimmel, after Kimmel spoofed a widely seen interview the rapper gave to BBC 1 about his place in the fashion industry. “SHOULD I DO A SPOOF ABOUT YOUR FACE OR YOU F—ING BEN AFFLECK #NODISRESPECTTOBENAFFLECK #ALLDISRESPECTTOJIMMYKIMMEL!!!!” West wrote in one of the now-deleted tweets. In the wake of the Twitter feud, West appeared on Kimmel’s show during that same year to discuss celebrity and his role in the overarching industry of fame. “I mean, taste, culture, art, just the quality of life, this is what I’m here to do. So when I compare myself to Steve Jobs, Walt Disney, Howard Hughes, David Stern, Michelangelo, da Vinci, Jesus, whoever it is, I say these are my heroes, these are people that I look up to, this is the type of impact I want to make on the Earth,” West said during the chat.
