Getting engaged was the easy part for Jake and Amy: Now it’s time to meet the parents. Or rather, for the parents to meet.
In the Thanksgiving episode of Brooklyn Nine-Nine, titled “Two Turkeys,” Jake (Andy Samberg) and Amy (Melissa Fumero) try to create a bonding moment between Jake’s parents, Karen (Katey Sagal) and Roger (Bradley Whitford), and Amy’s parents, Victor (Jimmy Smits), and Camila (Grimm‘s Bertila Damas). The first attempt at a full-on family holiday is not what most people — or anyone, for that matter — would call a success. (You can preview the T-Day gathering in the exclusive first-look photos above and below.)
“Jake is excited to have a big family Thanksgiving this year, and his main goal is to witness an awkward-but-good Dad Hug between his dad and Amy’s,” Brooklyn executive producer Dan Goor tells EW. “Also, Charles’ ‘Tommy Gobbler’ turkey costume makes a big comeback.”
Viewers, of course, have met the Peralta-Santiago parents previously, with the exception of Camila. Whitford guest-starred in seasons 2 and 3, Sagal surfaced in season 3, and Smits popped up in season 4.
The episode brings three mini-reunions for Smits. He starred with Whitford on The West Wing, and with Sagal on Sons of Anarchy, and Damas on the 1991 thriller Fires Within.
“Two Turkeys” airs Nov. 21 at 9:30 p.m. ET on Fox.
