The Gardner family will be back for more.
Netflix has ordered a second season of the original series Atypical, which will consist of 10 episodes — two more than its freshman installment.
Created by Robia Rashid, the coming-of-age dramedy focuses on Sam Gardner (Keir Gilchrist), an 18-year-old on the autism spectrum who is searching for love and independence. His journey of self-discovery prompts the rest of his family to evaluate what it means to be “normal.”
Horrible Bosses filmmaker Seth Gordon serves as a director and executive producer on Atypical, which also stars Jennifer Jason Leigh, Michael Rapaport, Brigette Lundy-Paine, and Amy Okuda.
In EW’s review of the series, Ariana Bacle gave it a B grade and wrote, “The overwhelming strength of Atypical is how very human it is, of its affection for its messy, relatable characters. Everyone’s different; everyone makes mistakes. That doesn’t make anyone any better than the next person or any less deserving of happiness or love, and that is the point Atypical makes.”
