Ali Wong knows a thing or two about being pregnant, and now she’ll be bringing those skills to bear on season 2 of American Housewife when her character, Doris, accidentally gets knocked up again. But, according to showrunner Sarah Dunn, Doris will be doing things a little differently with her fourth child.
“Doris has been a very stern mother, very kind of ‘tiger mom,’ but now she’s gonna have a different approach to this baby,” Dunn tells EW.
The pregnancy will also have ramifications for Doris’ friends and fellow Westport moms, Katie (Katy Mixon) and Angela (Carly Hughes). Season 2 will tackle the friendship between the three and their different mothering philosophies.
“We’re also going to find out more about Angela,” Dunn says. “She’s very indulgent, a little bit of a hippie mom with her kids’ feelings and all that stuff. Katie kind of falls in between those two, so there’ll be stuff with friends on the issue of motherhood prompted by Doris accidentally getting pregnant.”
Wong famously performed her breakout Netflix standup special, 2016’s Baby Cobra, while pregnant. The special contained several jokes about her pregnancy and balancing it with performing.
Season 2 of American Housewife, which will also feature George Hamilton as a rich neighbor newly returned to Westport, premieres Wednesday, Sept. 29 at 9:30 p.m. ET.
