Jerry Lewis

Starz to re-release Jerry Lewis documentary via app

The 2011 film Method to the Madness of Jerry Lewis will be available to stream and download

In light of legendary comedian Jerry Lewis’ death, Starz will re-release the 2011 Encore documentary Method to the Madness of Jerry Lewis via the Starz app. The film, which profiles Lewis and features interviews with Hollywood colleagues and friends including Jerry Seinfeld, Alec Baldwin, Eddie Murphy, Chevy Chase, and Quentin Tarantino, will be made available for streaming and download this Friday, Aug. 25.

Lewis died of heart failure Sunday at his home in Las Vegas. He was 91.

Director Gregg Barson’s documentary was the first and only project of its kind to be granted unfettered behind-the-scenes access to the comedian, filmmaker, and muscular dystrophy fundraiser. Although some reviewers thought the film fell short of painting a complete picture of a complicated man, Method to the Madness nevertheless offers a solid overview of Lewis’ enduring impact on Hollywood and comedy.
