So about that idea of a Drake cameo in season 2 of The Handmaid’s Tale…

Last month, The Boston Review ran an interview between The Handmaid’s Tale author Margaret Atwood and author Junot Díaz (The Brief Wondrous Life of Oscar Wao). The two acclaimed authors had a fascinating chat about a variety of topics, but one particular exchange made us sit up a little straighter. Díaz tells Atwood that after being in Toronto on a recent visit, that the city — and by extension, Canada — had two global superstars: Margaret Atwood and Drake. He asked her if she’d met Grammy winner. She hadn’t. She then went on to say, “Wouldn’t it be fun for him to have a cameo in season 2 of The Handmaid’s Tale?”

Later, she added, “I’ll drop that notion into the ear of Bruce Miller, the showrunner, and see what he can do with that because of course the show is filmed in Toronto. Maybe Drake could help smuggle someone?”

When EW spoke to Miller this morning after the executive producer found out that The Handmaid’s Tale had earned 13 Emmy nominations, we couldn’t resist asking about the aforementioned interview. Could all our dreams come true with a Drake casting?
“What Margaret says goes,” Miller said with a laugh. “He’s spectacular. He’d fit right in — we have a fun and smart and creative cast. I think he would have a good time.”
The dream lives on. Could we all be lucky enough to see Drake smuggling ladies out of Gilead? Fingers crossed.
