Marvel’s New Warriors has found its Squirrel Girl!

This Is Us star Milana Vayntrub has landed the coveted role in Freeform’s upcoming live-action comedy, cast alongside Derek Theler, Jeremy Tardy, Calum Worthy, Matthew Moy and Kate Comer, EW has confirmed.

The 10-episode series — which hails from showrunner Kevin Biegel and executive producers Jeph Loeb and Jim Chory — will follow six young superhumans learning to cope with their abilities in a world where bad guys can be as terrifying as bad dates.

Vayntrub, who played Kevin’s stage partner and brief love interest on This Is Us, will play Doreen Green, a.k.a Squirrel Girl, who is a totally empowered fangirl with the incredible powers of… a squirrel. Her greatest quality is her optimism, and her best friend is a pet squirrel, Tippy Toe.

Baby Daddy‘s Theler will play Craig Hollis (a.k.a. Mister Immortal), who can’t die… or so he says. Although Craig’s superpower seems amazing, he hasn’t made use of it at all – he figures if he has all the time in the world to learn how to do anything heroic, what’s the rush?

Dear White People‘s Tardy will play Dwayne Taylor (a.k.a. Night Thrasher), a shameless self-promoter and entrepreneur who also deeply believes in justice.

Austin & Ally‘s Worthy will play Robbie Baldwin (a.k.a. Speedball), an impulsive people-pleaser with a misplaced sense of confidence who throws kinetic balls of energy that are completely out of control.

2 Broke Girls‘ Moy will play Zack Smith (a.k.a. Microbe), a shy hypochondriac whose ability is that he can talk to germs that tell him where you’ve been, what you ate, and with whom you’ve hung out. It’s impossible to keep secrets around him.

The Comeback‘s Comer rounds out the cast as Deborah Fields (a.k.a. Debra), a proud, funny and quick-witted, low-level telekinetic — very low, as in she can move a paper cup.

“I am thrilled beyond belief to be working with this incredible group of actors,” Biegel says. “They are funny, sincere, eager, charming, and perfectly embody these characters. It’ll be a blast and an honor to create this show with each of them.”

New Warriors will debut on Freeform in 2018.
