HBO has announced that season 2 of the sitcom Vice Principals will premiere Sept. 17 — and released a teaser trailer which reveals that Danny McBride’s character did not get that letter about avoiding cultural appropriation.
Vice Principals stars McBride and Walton Goggins as a pair of high school educators determined to oust their boss, Dr. Belinda Brown (Kimberly Hebert Gregory), so that one of them can take her job. The show was created by McBride and director Jody Hill (The Foot Fist Way, Eastbound & Down).
“It was a film script that Danny and me wrote,” Hill told Entertainment Weekly last year, before the premiere of season 1. “It was right after Foot Fist Way went to Sundance, so this was back in 2009. It was us trying to write a world that we both knew. Danny had been a substitute teacher, my Mom is a middle-school teacher, so we felt that this would be a fun world to explore. When Eastbound & Down worked out okay, and HBO wanted some more for us, we just figured that this would be the next thing.”
