Under President Donald Trump, the Republican Party has control of all three branches of the federal government. As the Democratic Party scrambles to figure out how to face odds so stacked against them, Sen. Elizabeth Warren of Massachusetts has emerged as one of the leading progressive voices of opposition — most famously when her censure by Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell coined the now-iconic liberal slogan “nevertheless, she persisted.”
Not as widely know, perhaps? Warren’s love of the HBO series Ballers, which stars Dwayne Johnson and Rob Corddry as financial advisors who help NFL players transition to post-football life in style. Talking to Samantha Bee on Wednesday’s episode of Full Frontal, Warren presented an eloquent defense of the show.
“It’s actually a story about hard work,” Warren said. “It’s a story about perseverance, it’s a story about reaching within yourself for something you’re not 100 percent sure is there.”
“We’re talking about Ballers?” Bee asked incredulously.
Bee nevertheless prepared a very Ballers surprise for Warren. First she brought our Corddry, and then surprised the senator with a cardboard cut-out of Johnson from his wrestling days.
