Confession may be good for the soul, but will it be beneficial for the personal and professional relationship of Millennial publishing powerhouses Kelsey (Hilary Duff) and Liza (Sutton Foster) now that the former knows the latter’s secret (i.e. that she’s not the twenty-something she’s purported to be)?
“There’s a real sense of betrayal on Kelsey’s part,” creator Darren Star recently told EW of the season 3 finale cliffhanger. The revelation has Kelsey seeking solace in an unlikely source: Liza’s ex-boyfriend Josh (Nico Tortorella). “I don’t want to talk too much about it,” demurs Star. “But I think it’s understandable that they would become close based on what they have in common here.”
So given that Liza’s now on the outs with both Kelsey and Josh, will she turn to boss/crush Charles (Peter Hermann) for comfort?
“I would say that there’s going to be some major twists story-wise in that Charles-Liza relationship as well as the Liza-Josh relationship,” says Star. “I think that there’s definitely some unexpected turns there that are coming.”
What Star says fans can expect is that the series will continue its tradition of filming on location, with a season finale set in Ireland. “I think it’s fun for an audience to be taken somewhere, as long as there’s a good reason story-wise,” he says. “Originally, the Hamptons [episode] was going to be [set in] Cuba, so that changed last year. It was going to be a little more exotic, but with Zika and everything, it just didn’t become feasible to go. I think Ireland is going to be really interesting not just because we’re going to be filming there but just in terms of the story line.”
Hopefully, that means some Irish luck will rub off on Liza — she could use it.
